There’s nothing better than enjoying a BBQ surrounded by friends and family. However, some people are intimidated by the grill, while others just don’t know where to start to get that perfect crisp and char.
To help you make the most of your grilling season, here are a few chef tips to help ensure you have a perfect BBQ—every time!
Oil the Grill – Not the Food
To help prevent food from sticking it’s important to use oil; however, most people drench their food and forget that they can oil the grill. Instead of soaking your peppers or onions, dip a wadded-up paper towel in oil and use tongs to evenly oil the grate.
Please be careful not to use too much oil as it could cause a flare-up.
Don’t Wash the Grate
While some people might be tempted to use soap and water on the metal grate after using it—don’t! Instead, let the flames burn off larger pieces of food and then use a high-quality brush to dislodge any remaining bits.
Be aware that there have been concerns about wire-brushes,
always choose high-quality grilling accessories and replace brushes regularly.
Use the Whole Grilling Surface
Sometimes you need extremely high heat to sear and then a lower temperature to finish. Make use of the whole grilling surface and keep a cooler spot available to keep foods warm.
Add Some Extra Flavour
Save the stems from fresh rosemary, thyme and oregano. When the charcoal is ready for grilling, you can toss the stems on top and let the aromas naturally flavour meat or vegetables that you’re grilling.
