One Important Grilling Tip to Improve Your Skills
Whether you’re a seasoned grill master or just bought your first BBQ, there’s one grilling tip that can help take your BBQ game to the next level—be patient. The biggest mistake people make when it comes to grilling food is that they simply don’t wait long enough.
Allow the Grill to Heat Up
To properly prep your grill, close the lid for about 15 minutes and wait until the temperature reaches about 500°F. This will loosen any food bits from a prior cook, will help prevent your food from sticking and will also produce the beautiful sear that everyone loves about barbecuing. Ignoring this important step will lead to less-than-stellar results.
Keep the Lid Closed
It can be tempting to keep opening the lid to check on your food, but be patient and let the grill do its magic! Opening the lid too often will drastically drop the temperature, affecting your ability to sear properly and can also increase the chance of flare-ups due to the influx of oxygen. Practice patience and keep the lid closed until you need to flip.
Don’t Flip Food Too Often
How many times do you flip your food when it’s on the grill? In most cases, if you’re turning it more than once, it’s too much! Be patient with cook times and allow foods to develop deep colours, caramelization and beautiful sears before turning—your patience will be rewarded.
Grilling should be a more relaxed way of cooking—don’t rush the process and be patient!
