When it’s hot outside, the last thing you want to do is turn on your oven or stove and cook dinner inside. Instead, many people turn to their grills during the dog-days of summer to celebrate the nice weather and help keep the heat out of their homes. With proper maintenance and care, BBQs (barbecues) can last a long time, but eventually you’ll need to invest in a new grill (or at least some replacement parts). Here are a few signs you need to upgrade—or repair—your grill.
Heavily Cracked Firebox
The firebox is a major component of the grill because it’s where the burners are located and where many other parts of the grill attach. Cracks and fractures are a main concern with the firebox, so it’s important to keep up with regular maintenance. Thoroughly clean the part once or twice a year and visually inspect it about once a month. If you do notice a crack, contact the manufacturer to see if the replacement part is covered under warranty. If it is, they’ll send a replacement part to be installed, but if it’s not, you might want to consider upgrading to a new grill.
A problem with flames points to either the burners or ignitor. If you’ve kept up with regular grill maintenance and there are no blocks—you’ll likely have to replace either the burner or ignitor. These parts might be covered under warranty—and even if they’re not—it’s not usually an expensive fix. However, it can be a bit complicated to replace, so if you need any help don’t hesitate to contact Harding The Fireplace. We have a wide selection of burners and igniters and the skilled technicians to replace the part for you.
You should always clean the grate before grilling, but sometimes it gets to the point where the grates are no longer usable and will continue to flake and contaminate food even after a vigorous brushing. Replacement grate costs will depend on brand and material of the grate—so it’s important to weigh the cost of repair vs. the benefits of a new grill.
