What You Should Do When You Get a New Napoleon Grill
You finally did it: you treated yourself to a beautiful and powerful new Napoleon grill! Summer has about 92 evenings in it, which means you have about 92 chances to have an incredible backyard barbeque with your family and friends. What are the first steps for you and your new Napoleon grill though? Here’s a quick starter guide for getting set up and getting to the grilling.
Make Sure The Electrodes Are Where They’re Supposed To Be
Before grilling, always make sure that the electrodes fit snugly in their connectors. You can find your grill’s electrodes either in the control panel or inside the grill cabinet. If you have questions about the electrodes in your grill, do not hesitate to ask one of our expert staff before taking your grill home!
Ensure the Burners Are Sitting Properly
Sometimes through the delivery or assembly, your grill’s burners can shift from where they’re meant to sit. Before you start grilling for the first time, take a look under the sear plates to ensure that your burners are sitting in their housing properly!
Perform A Leak Test
If you’re already an experienced grill master, you probably already know that older and used grills need to be leak-tested twice a year, so you may already be familiar with the process. Before you use a grill for the first time, it’s important to perform the very first leak test by brushing each connection where gas will flow with a mixture of equal parts water and dish soap. If you see bubbles begin to form, this means that those connectors are leaking and need to be tightened.
Start Slow and Steady with the Gas
When you get a new car you don’t immediately floor on the gas, you need to see how it handles first, and it’s the same concept with a new grill. Once the gas is flowing, take the time to slowly turn the control knob closest to the gas source and wait for it to ignite. Be patient, as it might take a few tries the first time as you learn to handle your new grill.
Remember to Season The Grates
This is where the fun begins! Before turning on your grill, take a little extra time to season the grates by rubbing both sides with a high-temperature fat like lard, or vegetable starch, and then turn the grill to 400°F to let it bake for 15 minutes. Do this five to six more times before using your grill to get more flavourful results and a non-stick surface on the grill!
