It gets cold in Ottawa, but that doesn’t stop people from braving the elements to bbq. If you’re one of the many people that enjoy winter grilling, we have some tips for you!
Keep the Grill Covered When Not in Use – Use a high-quality grill cover to keep snow and ice off your grill.
Don’t Skip the Pre-Heat – It can take up to 20 minutes for the grill to reach ideal grilling temperature in the winter. To ensure you get the sear you’re looking for, don’t try to bbq before the grill has warmed up.
Periodically Check Gas Lines – The cold weather can cause grill parts to become brittle. Make sure to check gas lines and connections every once in a while and be careful not to break frozen knobs.
Keep the Lid Closed – Every time you open the grill lid, you’re extending the cooking time. Make sure to only open the lid when you need to flip foods or take them off the grill.
Keep Food Warm – Have a way to keep your food warm between the grill and the table. Preheat ceramic cookware to hold temperature and help retain heat.
Dress Warmly and Safely – You want to keep warm when winter grilling, but make sure your clothing isn’t a safety hazard. Loose-hanging scarves can fall into the grill and thick gloves can impede cooking.
